Essential Commute

Commissioned for The New York Times

It takes Delrisa Sewell-Henry, a home health aide, two to three hours on a bus and three subway trains to cross the city to care for a disabled man. An army of essential health care workers in NYC endures some of the worst commutes, resulting in docked pay and firings. Relying on public transit while living in neighborhoods with limited service affects the care of vulnerable patients and their families who depend on them. For Delrisa, transit delays cost her the money counted on to care for her own family.
